A lecture with Baan Hollanda's designer
You may spotted Estrella Montien (Khun Dao) with her presentation here at Baan Hollanda last Sunday. She visited us with a group of Cultural Management students from Silpakorn University. As a museologist and the designer of Baan Hollanda exhibition that we all impressed with, khun Dao has so many exciting stories and detail to share with us. The design journey of our exhibition started with Khun Dao and a team of curators and designers. The aim of the task was to deliver stories about the historical tie of over 400 years relations of the two countries. The challenge was we only one floor space of the exhibition!
Listening to Khun Dao and you will learn how the design was developed and how the fund raising project went before we are Baan Hollanda as today. These are behind-the-scene detail that made reality happened and her energy will certainly inspire you to feel passionate about the art of museum-making and delivering stories.
Apart from educating visitors about the Dutch history, one of our goals is also to educate learners about cultural values. If you would like to meet khun Dao and learn her design and work process creating Baan Hollanda project, do get in touch with us!
Indorama Ventures visit to Baan Hollanda
On 6th August 2015, we had the opportunity to welcome a corporate visit from our kind sponsor, Indorama Ventures. The group arrived in the late morning with high spirit and energy. They had an exhibition visit from our manager and learn the history about the Dutch - Thai relations which started at the trade relations of the Dutch East India and Siam.
The exhibition session was warmly received by our visitors from Indorama and everyone participated actively in our Q&A game afterward. The morning finished with a nice coffee in our cafe before their departure to other historical sites in the city.
Baan Hollanda wishes to thank Indorama Ventures for their kind support to our centre and their lovely visit. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome the company again!!

Although it's been since April, allow us to breifly let you know about our first festival we held in April 2015, the Dutch Heritage Weekend, which happened in the same week as the celebration of the Netherlands's National Day. We had over two hundred guests per day visiting us in Ayutthaya where the colourful event (though mostly orange!) was prepared at Baan Hollanda including fresh stroopwafels, Dutch inspired souvenirs and painting Dutch patterns on canvas bags.
Apart from the Dutch culture that visitors get to explore, the day was also filled with families getting the chance to spend thier weekend together which is always one of our goals as a historical centre. Another section that was also popular, was our main exhibition. The story of the VOC and how the Dutch operated their trade with Siam and how they lived in the city of Ayutthaya. We also had a large university group visiting us on those two days of the weekend, which all went very enjoyable and the atmosphere was packed with excitement!
One of our historian and VOC expert, Dr.Bhawan was also here on the day to guide our visitors through the exhibition. Below is our atmosphere during the sale of freshly made stroopwafels by a local Dutch bakery in Ayutthaya.
We will organise the Netherland's National Day event every year, so do stay tuned the for up coming annoucement from March next year for the event in April 2016! We hope to see you again here!
Tot ziens! (See you!)
